[156] John and his wife came to this country with the Gilmans in 1638, andsettled in Hingham, Massachusetts. He was granted four acres of landwhich abutted upon the "Playne" eastward, and upon the "Common"westward. With Captain Joshua Hobart he had liberty from theinhabitants of the town to utilize certain streams for the purpose oferecting a saw-mill, or mills. He was a member of the Hingham militia.In 1645 he was a selectman, one of those chosen to order the affairsof the town. He was representative from Hingham in 1654.
