Came to us on Ship Billender Townshend, which "Qualified" inPhiladelphia on October 5, 1737. Stories from Ira Taylor Sligar ofKnoxville, Tennessee and Ella Sligar of Gridley, California indicatethat he came with a brother George. Supposedly on was light colored,and the other one was dark. We must have come from the dark one. Theysettled in Washington county, Tennessee very early, maybe before 1740.There was an "old man Slygar" there in 1740. Several of hisgrandchildren, including my ancestor Adam, were married there. Nameslisted in the boat's manifest, which are close to Johan Schlieger areJohn Slyger, Johan Geor Seyger (Seger), John Henry Sleyger, and JohanShliger.
