Asle Ellingsen came to the United States in 1871 and his family livedat
Hayfield, Minnesota. He had been a farmer in Sigdal and the name ofhis
farm was Anfinrudhagen. It had been Hagen but with the purchase ofsome
property from a farm named Anfinrud the name was changed to note thiscom-
bination of farms. He is listed in Andreas Morch's Gard og Slekt VolII
page 65.
Before emigrating, Asle sold his farm to Else Kittlesd. Anfinrudfor
300 spd. They then went to Oslo (I think) and then from there to NewCastle
England where they took a ship to Canada. They came by rail to theGreat
Lakes. Family legend has it that they were to have landed in Chicagobut
because of the great fire they had to land elsewhere. They thentraveled on
to Hayfield. The family had close ties to Rochester, Minnesota andvisited
there with either family or friends. Uncle Clarence Thomas, son ofSiri
A. Thomas visted there many times.
Asle died in Akron, Wilkin, Minnesota on 21 May 1909 at 4:00p.m.Cause
of death is given as Cerebral Apoplexy and senility sign by J.C.Serkland
of Rothsay #14084 State of Minesota, age 91 years, 2 months, 28 days.
Both Asle and Anne are buried in Hammar Cemetery. They livedapart
but were never divorced. Asle lived with Sievert and Anne lived withLars.
Two sons, Lars and unknown came over to America first and thenAsle
and the rest of the family followed. Lars was an itinerant shoemakerand
was a tailor. They worked until they saved enough money tocome
to Amerika.
