[1223]
Dolphin received Staindropshire from the Prior of Durham in 1131 {ref:"The Extinct and Dormant Peerages of the Northern Counties of England," J.W.Clay (London, 1913), pp. 144-147}. {Also see "The Old Lords ofRaby," John L. Low(booklet, 1879, used at Bodleian Library, Oxford,England, 5/87, which gives a variant pedigree).} Sir Anthony R.Wagner, Garter King of Arms ("English Ancestry," Oxford U. Press,1961, p.17) states: "It was believed in about 1500 and long after thatDolfin was descended from Maldred, but the proof assumes identities ofcertain Uchtreds and Maldreds, which, though possible, are
quite uncertain, these names being not uncommon in eleventh centuryNorthumbria."
