He was also called Albertus De Grelly. He came in 1066 with William.He fought at the battle of Hastings. He was a follower of Roger depoitou. He is mentioned as having land in Lancashire. He owned thechurch of St. peter in Lincolnshire. He held lands in Machester,Norfolk, Lincoln and Suffolk. He lived at least until 1118.
He is mentioned in the Domesday Book as holding with Roger de Buslethe whole manor and Blackburn Hundred in Lancashire (Cheshire in thosetimes) given them by ROger de Poitou; also, himself, as holdingSpixworth in Norfolk and Mayton; also Hainton in Lincolnshire.According to the Domesday Book the church of St. Peter in Lincolnshirebelonged to Albert De Grelley, having been founded by Roger de Pointousometime before 1086 and was given by charter by Poitou to Grelley(Greslet) in 1094.

Henry, second son of Edmund, was made Earl of Leicester by KingEdward II who refused him the Lancaster title and estates of hisbrother Thomas. When Queen Isabella took up arms against her husbandin 1326, Earl Henry joined her and was gaoler of King Edward II atKenilworth Castle. When Edward III became King, Earl Henry became Earlof Lancaster and secured his brother's lands, becoming also Steward ofEngland. In 1328 he tried to overthrow Mortimer but failed, thenmaking peace with the King, and finally succeeding against Mortimer.Earl Henry then became blind and retired from public life.
