In 1673 he became on of the origninal proprietors of Farmington, hisinterst being 43 pounds. He and his wife live on Bird's Hill on thenorth side of the road to Hartford. He fought in King Phillip's War(1675-1676) and in 1678 was a member of the Farmington militia. In1689 he had the Garrison House in Farmington. In 1702 he was appointedby the General Assembly as a town officer. In 1711 he was paid 300pounds by the GOvernment for goods for the Colonial forces of thiscolony and for his services.
At the turn of the century Samuel Gridley was identified among themost prosperous of the citizans of Farmington. He was an excellentblacksmith.
